This is a very good knife. Its very large, but compared to other knives of the size, its actually fairly light weight. The knife is very, very balanced when the compass part is screwed in. It weighs about a pound and a quarter, and will not weigh you down while backpacking.

The survival gear in the handle is fairly useful. Mine didn’t include any sinkers, like the picture shows, and I replaced the matches it came with with waterproof matches, added a needle, and three or so sinkers. There is a small amount of room behind the pocket in the sheath for the sharpening stone, and I put a flint and little metal piece (so as not to ruin the knife’s finish) in behind it. I also managed to fit 20 or so iodine pills in a separate bag in the handle.

The knife comes sharp, but not razor sharp, and i spent a fair amount of time sharpening it before taking it anywhere. The sheath is nice, with a plastic lining to keep the knife from cutting through the fabric. The sharpening stone is very small and pretty low quality, and is hard to sharpen the knife with, but in a survival situation its far better than nothing. If you can find one the right size, I’d suggest replacing it with something higher quality. Although you cant really tell from the picture, the knife has a rather large serrated edge, which works like its supposed to. Compared to a similar knife, the master jack assault knife (also available on amazon), this knife feels much sturdier, it doesn’t shake like a part is coming loose when you use it. It weighs far less than the jack knife, and the compass actually works. All in all, a great, reliable knife for very little. Just be aware that you’re buying a gigantic knife (measure out fifteen inches before ordering)

This knife was not bought seriously. My roommate and I saw it and decided that it would probably provide more than 20 dollars of entertainment. (previously we had gotten a cheap katana and had loads of fun). So, a 15 inch black survival knife? Sounds awesome.

Then, we went camping with it. The stove we rented did not fit the fuel canister we had, but luckily the fire ban had been lifted. The knife soon became used to collect firewood, allowing us to chop branches off of fallen trees. For thicker branches, the sawback worked (although not that well- most branches were best cut by hacking)

The knife was very useful for various tasks around camp, and soon we located it in a central location so that everyone could get it when they needed it (which was pretty often).

All in all- it’s actually a pretty good knife. The stuff in the handle is pretty useless, and the knife is pretty big, making it unwieldy for delicate tasks. However, if you know what you’re getting (it’s a 15 inch knife!), then it’s a pretty good purchase.

I received a similar but cheaper version of the knife. no compass, no ruberized handle, and no eye in the hilt as shown in the picture, I wrote to amazon and they did offer to do a refund and then ultimately ageed to reimburse me $5 while I kept the knife. But the Knife I received hk698-c is available on other sites for $14 and sells regualrly for $26, which the knife in the description is supposedly $39 regularly. TO me this felt like a bait and switch and even though I brough it to Amazons attention they still leave the item up for sale as is. DOn’t buy it or anything sponsered by Pachi Paradice.

This knife is so sweet, by far the biggest bang for your buck. Amazingly sharp be very very careful even the little top teeth will destroy whatever they touch. This is not a cheapo mass produced piece of junk like most of the so called stainless knives. This is the real deal, will not disapoint
